Spells

It's been a while since the last article as the spells were pretty tough to get completed. That's a wide variety of spells and getting graphics for the spell cards was a rather lengthy process as the graphics are more symbolic and conceptual as opposed to a picture of something tangible. Also, A.I. art engines quiet often don't understand what you're trying to get out of it. Some cards took a dozen tries to get one graphic ...and it still may not be exactly what I wanted but, overall, I think they turned out nicely.

Spells require an Arcane Point Cost (APC) to use and, furthermore, whenever a spell is attempted, a Cast% roll, based on a player's skill, must be made to see if the casting is successful. If it is, the effects of the spell are applied.

Some races are natural spell casters with several Arcane Points (AP) ...like the Fairy and Krimin. Not only do they have the points to cast multiple spells in a single round, they are able to possess a good number of spells at one time and some are never without a spell. Other races, like the Troll and Hobgoblin, with extremely low AP and casting abilites, may never have the opportunity to cast a spell in the game.

There are 3 types of spells: Retaliation Spells, Combat Spells, and General Spells

Retaliation Spells

These spells are cast in reaction to other spells being cast in the hopes of either negating or changing the outcome of the original spell. They only coast 1 AP so even a Troll can cast one of these on a good Cast% roll. Here's some samples:

Combat Spells

Combat spells are used in combat. Bet you didn't see that coming. They cost 3 AP to use so obviously a Troll can't use them but they come in real handy for a magic-user who has face the brutal strength of a troll or power creature in combat. Here's some samples:

General Spells

These are very general in nature and can effect a multitude of different things like enhanced travel, complications for your rivals, multiple turns, increased powers etc. They cost 2 AP so a female troll may be able to eek one out on a really good Cast% roll ....but probably not. Here's some samples:

I have now replaced graphics and updated descriptions on 467 cards. Next I'll be doing the creatures of which there are over 200 spread out among 5 creature types. I'll be posting an article on each type separately. Stay tuned.
